I can see where they're coming from, but I simply don't agree it's worth the hassle. Making sundials obsolete is not progress.

If your navigation system causes two planes to crash because of a one-second error, you have worse problems than leap seconds(!)

 Leon: Yes it makes some sense but the fallout could be unpredictable. Time is already amorphous as it is. Just ask a few neighbours what the time is they'll all give different answers.

At least now we can look at the sun and be fairly close. Although I once saw a boy declare a sundial was wrong- it was do to day light savings time.:)
